The Brazilian payphone ‘cabin’

This is the type of payphone that was used in Brazil between 1972 and 2017-2019 when 99% of them were removed. It’s called Orelhão (big ear) due to it’s shape. Made by a chinese engineer that came to brazil to work for CTBC (telephone operator) in the late 50’s or 60’s. it’s made out of fiberglass and meant to protect the telephone from sun, rain, etc. and improve acoustics for the user. Definetly one of the most iconic brazilian things you could see on the street. this one specifically has a solar panel on top which i’d never seen before and it didn’t work either way. back in the day there could be up to 3 cabins on one single ‘pole’ but they are near nonexistent now
